Sports and BBQ Do Mix

There’s really no food I’d rather eat while watching a game than BBQ, so it seems fitting that there are so many athletes who move towards BBQ joint ownership once their careers are over (of course there are those that delve into it while they are in the midst of their career, but the restaurant business seems to be something one likes to transition to).

As I’m almost as addicted to research as I am to BBQ, I spent the time searching out those joints owned by current or past star athletes. Here’s what I found:

Nate Thurmond – Profressional Basketball – San Francisco/Golden State Warriors
Joint – Nate’s BBQ – San Francisco, CA

Andy Nelson – Professional Football – Baltimore Colts
Joints – Andy Nelson’s BBQ – Cockeysville, MD

Billy Sims – Professional Football – Detroit Lions
Joints – Billy Sims BBQ – Oklahoma & Missouri

Boogs Powell – Professional Baseball – Baltimore Orioles
Joints – Boog’s BBQ – Maryland

Bubba Baker – Professional Football – Various Teams
Joint – Bubba’s Q – Avon, OH

Luke Walton – Professional Basketball – Los Angeles Lakers
Joints – Joey’s Smokin’ BBQ – San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles – CA

Randy White – Professional Football – Dallas Cowboys
Joint – Randy White’s BBQ – Texas

Winston Hill – Professional Football – New York Jets
Joint – Winston Hill’s Ribs and Stuff – Denver, CO

Lastly, Ray Lewis (Professional Football, Baltimore Ravens) used to own a joint called Ray Lewis’ Full Moon Barbecue, but it’s no longer around.
