Jamie Deen – My Favorite BBQ Joints – Volume 7

This week I’m lucky to have one of the ‘Deen Brothers‘, Jamie Deen, participate in my weekly feature ‘My Favorite BBQ Joints’. If you watch the Food Network you already know who he is from his hit show Road Tasted, but if for some reason you don’t, he is the oldest son of Paula Deen. If you don’t know who Paula Deen is I really don’t know what to tell you.

Since he and his brother Bobby are big fans of barbecue and have traveled the entire country tasting great BBQ (and incredible food), I was really interested to see what his choices were.

Here is his list, in his words:

It’s no surprise that my two favorite barbecue restaurants are in Austin, Texas. The County Line has some of the best ribs that I’ve ever put in my mouth.

If you love brisket as much as I do, then you shouldn’t miss The Salt Lick Bar-B-Que Restaurant. This place wins, hands down, no contest.

I have to say, though, that good ol’ Savannah, Georgia can hold its own in the barbecue competition. We’ve got two standout places that I try to visit as often as possible. Wiley’s Championship BBQ

…and Papa’s Bar-B-Que and Seafood are two locally owned restaurants that know how to do it up royal. I just love ‘em.

Now, I hate to brag, but Mama and Michael Groover occasionally smoke a pork butt at their house and they can whip some of the best-tasting chopped barbecue sandwiches that you can find. Bobby and I really love barbecue and we’re really excited to announce that we’ve got some great sauces, spices and rubs that will be hitting stores soon.

Jamie and Bobby Deen have a new book (their third) coming out April 19th. It’s called The Deen Bros. Get Fired Up: Grilling, Tailgating, Picnicking, and More

  1. So, I take it he never got to Franklin while in Austin?

& To say that the Salt Lick is in the top 2 for PRODUCT (vs. the whole “lazy day” experience is frightening.

I’m all about the beef ribs @ County Line (on “the Lake” moreso than “the Hill”), but you have to remember to ALWAYS order it dry / sauce on the side.

“If you leave a place talking about the sauce, then something went wrong.”
