To be honest, I really didn’t know much about Old Colony Smokehouse in Edenton, North Carolina until I interviewed him about his piece “The United States of Texas Barbecue” that he did for Texas monthly. He spoke highly about them and after a little research I realized that Old Colony was doing something really special there.
This partial quote from their website sums up their ethos, “We’re here to preach the gospel of traditional southern culinary ingredients and methods. Ways that set the tables of generations before, but have been lost because they’re too time consuming and labor intensive. We serve dishes that we grew up on, that taste like home. We were raised on farms right here in Eastern North Carolina giving us a first-hand look at the work that goes into putting food on the table. From the wood that fuels our fires to the grains and vegetables in our sides, each component of our dishes is respected and treated with care.”
Peppermint Bark Cheesecake
All of their food looks incredible but I wanted, for fun and visual pleasure, to showcase the wildly creative desserts they offer. Of course these are not available at all times however I did read that at times they have up to EIGHT hand-made desserts available on certain days. You should definitely check their social media before visiting if you have your heart set on something but I’d say, just visit and I’m sure you will love it.
